Restore Extended Tiles view option to Sync Center in Windows Vista

In Sync Center the default view is Extended Tiles, which includes a sync progress bar. Due to folder type corruption (incorrect FFlags data in the Bags registry key), the Extended Tiles option may be missing in the Sync Center and it defaults to Tiles view.

In Tiles view, each tile has a fixed width and the tiles may be arranged in multiple columns. In Extended Tile view, each tile occupies the full width. Here is how to restore the Extended Tiles view in Sync Center.

Method 1

Clearing all saved folder views should fix the problem. See section Clear all saved folder views in this article.

Method 2

Use this method if you don’t want to lose the saved folder views.

1. Click Start, type Regedit.exe and press {ENTER}

2. Backup the following key to a .REG file (say, bags.reg)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Classes \ Local Settings \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell \ Bags

3. Right-click the Bags key and choose Delete. Click Yes to confirm.

4. Launch Sync Center (Click Start, type Mobsync.exe)

5. Press and hold the CTRL key, and close (click the Red X button) the Sync Center window.

(A new Bag # will be created for Sync Center folder.)

6. Refresh the Registry Editor (press F5) and note down the new Bag # that’s created (Example: 221)

7. Right-click the Bags key and choose Delete. Click Yes to confirm.

8. Click File, Import… select the .REG file (bags.reg) which was created using Step #2 above

9. Navigate to the following branch:

*Where the {Bag #} placeholder represents the actual Bag number which was found using Step #6.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Classes \ Local Settings \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell \ Bags \ {Bag #} \ Shell \{5C4F28B5-F869-4E84-8E60-F11DB97C5CC7}

10. Double-click FFlags value

11. Set its Value data to 2000001 (Hex)

12. Exit the Registry Editor.
