Get Windows Media Player in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Windows 10 Build 16299 is the final version of Fall Creators Update. A new Microsoft Update KB4046355 for this build seems to remove Windows Media Player. KB4046355 shows up as “FeatureOnDemandMediaPlayer” in the Windows Updates listing.

Installing KB4046355 update clears the Program Files\Windows Media Player folder, leaving out only the wmp.dll file. The context menu entries in File Explorer are removed as well.

Microsoft hasn’t provided any information about this update, but it’s possible that Microsoft is removing Windows Media Player (making it an on-demand app) intentionally in order to promote other media apps from the Store.

If you need Windows Media Player in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, here is how to reinstall it:

1. Open Settings (WinKey + i)

2. Click Apps.
